Charles M. Bristow, Jr.


Charles grew up in the business his grandfather started in the late nineteenth century in Deltaville and Saluda. He served in the Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He graduated first in his class from Eckels College of Mortuary Science in 1956. His father turned the funeral home over to him three years later. Charles has served as Chair and Vice Chair of the Virginia Board of Health Professions for a total of eight years, President of the Virginia Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers and Director of the Virginia Funeral Directors Association. He is president of Bristow-Faulkner in Saluda and Marks-Bristow in Tappahannock, Virginia, Secretary-Treasurer of Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home in Mathews and President of Tri-County Vault Company, Saluda, Virginia.

Charles was recognized for more than a half-century of community service in 2007 when the Middlesex Rotary Club honored him at their annual "Pride of Middlesex" banquet. Charles is a charter member and past president of the Central Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad and Middlesex Lions Club. He is a member and former Chairman of the Urbanna Oyster Festival Foundation Board and was Grand Marshall of the 40th festival in 1997. As the former director of Civil Defense for Middlesex County, Virginia, he developed the county's civil defense plan. Charles also served on the board of Virginia's River Country, an organization created to stimulate economic development in Virginia's Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.

Charles is Past Master of the Urbanna Masonic Lodge #83 AF & AM, past District Deputy Grand Master of the 11th Masonic District, member and past High Priest of Urbanna Royal Arch Chapter #59 and member, Shrine and Scottish Rites.

Charles and his wife, Betty Page Waddell Bristow, attend Urbanna United Methodist Church, where he has served as trustee and chair of the Administrative Board and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee.

Charles William Faulkner

Former Secretary-Treasurer

Our partner and friend, Bill Faulkner, passed away June 16, 2010. Bill found his life's work during his Army Medical Corps service in WWII when God called him to funeral service. Bill graduated from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Nashville in 1950 and joined Forrest Funeral Home in Mathews and Mercer Funeral Home in Urbanna, Virginia. With encouragement and support from Garland Mercer, he later established Faulkner Funeral Home in Urbanna, Virginia and Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home in Mathews, Virginia. He and Charles Bristow merged their businesses in 1959.

Bill served on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Funeral Directors Association and as president of the Tidewater Funeral Directors Association. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Mizpah Health Center, Locust Hill, Virginia. He also served on the Urbanna Town Council.

Bill was very active in the Mathews Rotary Club, Mathews American Legion Post #83, Mathews Ruritan Club, Urbanna Masonic Lodge #83, Urbanna Royal Arch Chapter #59 and the Urbanna Commandery #33. In 2010 the Mathews Chamber of Commerce named him Businessman of the Year and honored him with their Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bill was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Topping, Virginia, where he was Chairman of the Board of Deacons and was a Deacon Emeritus.

Anthony E. Brooks

Manager, Funeral Director and Embalmer

Tony joined us in 1984. He graduated from John Tyler Community College in 1987, where he received the Service to Funeral Service Association award for the 1986-1987 school year. Tony is a member of Urbanna United Methodist Church where he has served on the Administrative Board and as Chair of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee. He is a member of Urbanna Masonic Lodge #83 AF & AM and Urbanna Royal Arch Chapter #59.

Christine Noel Williams

Funeral Director and Embalmer

Christine has been with us since 2007. She enjoys working for a family business and knows her work helps family find peace of mind and closure. She is a 1999 graduate of San Antonio Community College. Christine worships at the Church of the Visitation in Topping, Virginia.

Jennifer Purrington

Financial Manager

Jennifer began working at her father's funeral home in Boston when she was 13 years old. She joined us in 2003 when she married and moved to Virginia. Jennifer says working here "is like working with my family. It's just like it was at home."

Bernice Wyatt

Office Manager

Bernice retired from GE Life and Annuity Insurance Company in 1994. She joined us in 2004 because she likes to work with people. She and her husband, Kenny, are members of Urbanna Baptist Church.

Kenneth L. Wyatt

Funeral Assistant

After retiring from VDOT in 1995, Kenny became a part-time engineering consultant. In 2003, he started to assist us on an as-needed basis. He and his wife Bernice, our office manager, attend Urbanna Baptist Church.

Frankie Bristow

Funeral Assistant

Frankie lends us a hand on a part-time basis. He retired from his full-time career at Newport News Shipbuilding welding school in June 2010. He is an active member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church.
